Annual Scientific Meeting

Abstracts to be submitted for the Session on Tuesday 14th September.

Abstracts whether as audit, case study, a technical approach or an operational format can be submitted on-line by 3 May 2010. There will be a tick box to enable authors to indicate if their abstract would be suitable for inclusion in the Nurses WP parallel session. Two of the referees will be nurses. Please do consider submitting an abstract for the meeting, there will be an opportunity for up to 7 abstracts/case studies to be presented at the meeting on Tuesday 14th September.

The deadline is May 3rd. You don’t have to have joined the BHS to submit an abstract/case study. Just make a note that you are a current NHA member.

RESEARCH NURSE

Applications are sought for the post of Research Nurse to contribute to the work of the Clinical Research Facility within the William Harvey Research Institute.

The successful applicant will join an exciting team of scientists at the Centre for Clinical Pharmacology in the William Harvey Research Institute. The unit is internationally recognised for its contribution to the development of novel treatments for cardiovascular disease. Our clinical trials unit recruits patients from a catchment of over 500,000 patients in primary and secondary care in East London.

The post is primarily to assist with recruitment, clinical care and management across a range of clinical studies of innovative medicines. The post holder will join a high calibre multidisciplinary team based within the John Vane Research Centre, on the Charterhouse Square Campus of Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry. The Centres within the building provide a unique breadth of expertise in vascular disease, inflammation, and cancer biology on one site with newly refurbished laboratories and cutting edge imaging facilities. It is located in the heart of the City of London in close proximity to the Barbican Art and Music Centre.

The succesful candidate should be a highly enthusiastic nurse capable of making a significant contribution to the overall objectives of the group. Applications from those seeking a career in research are welcome. Experience in research methodologies would be advantageous but is not mandatory. The successful applicant will be primarily expected to provide clinical support under supervision for clinical trials within our purpose built clinical research facility.

Candidates are required to have a minimum of RGN and UKCC registration.

This is a full time, 1 year fixed term appointment.

Salary will be in the range of £30,079 - £35,355 per annum, plus £750 Inner London Allowance dependent on experience. The benefits package for this post includes 30 days annual leave, contributory final salary pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum & Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Applications are sought for two posts as Research Nurse or Clinical Scientist to contribute to the work of the HiLo Project within the William Harvey Research Institute.

The successful applicants will join an exciting small team at the Centre for Clinical Pharmacology in the William Harvey Research Institute. The Unit is internationally recognised for its contribution to the development of novel treatments for cardiovascular disease. Our clinical trials unit recruits patients from a catchment of over 500,000 patients in primary and secondary care in East London.

The HiLo Initiative is a collaborative study between the Centre for Clinical Pharmacology, with the Clinical Effectiveness Group based at the same Institution, and GP practices in East London.

The aim of the initiative is to assist GPs to improve the blood pressure control of hypertensive patients on their lists, by means of series of teaching sessions and interactive seminars on blood pressure treatment and case based treatment suggestions for individual patients. A similar improvement in the lowering of cholesterol levels in patients at high risk of heart disease will be sought by education on cholesterol lowering. These will be given by doctors and nurses from the department, using the experience they have gained from the ASCOT trial (Anglo-Scandinavian Cardiac Outcomes Trial).

The candidates should be highly enthusiastic and capable of making a significant contribution to the overall objectives of the group. Applications from those seeking a career in research are welcome.
